Creating the Morristown EcoCenter–March 19, 2011 Meeting
Posted by Admin under: Community Development; Ecology; Economy; Events; Forum; Future; Green Building; Inspiration; Landscaping; Leadership; Sustainability .
Please note: This event will now be held at the site of the proposed EcoCenter
— 55 Bank Street, Morristown, NJ —
instead of at the Library, but you must RSVP to attend. Please click here for an invitation.
We’re inviting a number of our colleagues and collaborators to join us for a presentation on the planning and design of the Morristown EcoCenter for our March meeting.
The essence of the plan is to convert a former auto dealership — in many ways an icon of America’s automobile-centered culture — into a facility that is seeding sustainability and sustainable enterprise in Morristown and the surrounding region. The existing 20,000-SF building will house an organic restaurant — a first in Morris County — along with a “food hub,” consisting of a walk-in cooler for fresh, local produce; a commercial kitchen and “food discovery center”; educational programming on urban agriculture, and so on.
The project will feature 10,000 square feet of rooftop commercial greenhouse space, along with a range of innovative technologies designed to conserve energy, recycle water and other resources, and grow food, flowers, and native species on site.
Please note the date for this event — Saturday, March 19, 1-4 p.m. — RSVP to rsvp@slforum.org. Limited to the first 40 to respond.
In addition to presenting the plans and ideas, we’ll be focusing on the opportunities for individuals and organizations to become involved. Please join us for a tour of the site and a discussion of this visionary project.
