Sustainable Landscapes & Waterfronts: From Maintenance to Regeneration
Saturday, April 3 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Wayne Public Library*
In this session we will be talking about a range of topics from lawn care, using permaculture design principles to reconfigure suburban landscapes, to new approaches to waterfront redevelopment. Our speakers, pioneers – truly “bioneers” – are planning, designing, developing and managing landscapes for environmental, social and economic sustainability.
Theodore Eisenman will speak about his experience as a green infrastructure and ecological design consultant to federal, municipal, and non-profit clients, and as a writer/editor on these subjects. He will be presenting his work on Hudson Riverfront Planning & Design Guidelines, a New York State funded project to provide waterfront design and climate change adaptation guidance for 85 riverfront towns in a region expected to gain one-half million people by 2030.
Jan Graff will speak about capturing energy high in our landscapes and her vision of a world organized by watershed communities and bio-regenerative “eco-tones” that replace imaginary lines between properties, towns, states and nations. Jan is a Certified Permaculture Designer. Her company, Big Old Trees, designs and implements beautiful, educational, edible forest gardens that require less maintenance and acquire more bio-diversity as time goes by.
The Sustainable Leadership Forum (SLF) brings people together to strengthen members’ capabilities in thinking, acting and leading others to bring about a sustainable future on this planet. Leaders from public, private and not-for-profit organizations are invited to present their projects to SLF audiences and receive participation, feedback and coaching in developing creative solutions and leading high-impact, enduring change initiatives. The SLF meets monthly in central NJ.
